Beyond Books: Audiovisual Materials at the Library

An overview of audiovisual materials available to Stanford Law School students.

Blu-Ray and DVD

The Robert Crown Law Library has more than 1,000 video titles to choose from, including popular television shows, documentaries, and videos with tips about practicing law. Search or browse the library catalog, then come to the Loan Desk to pick up your selection.

Availability is limited to Stanford law students, faculty, and staff. Videos are for in-library use only and must be returned the same day. SLS student organizations interested in viewing these films for an event may have extended borrowing privileges. Please inquire with Will Huggins, Access Services Librarian, who can provide information about whether public performance rights are included with an individual title and can assist with extending your loan period.

Kanopy is a streaming video service, available through Stanford, that includes films, television shows, and educational videos. Major subjects covered include the arts, business and training, health sciences, media and communication, natural sciences, social sciences, and teacher education. Search or browse films by subject (including Documentaries, LGBT, Classic Cinema, Comedy, and War & Action) and language. Kanopy also includes the Criterion Collection of feature films.

Television News Archive

The Vanderbilt Television News Archive is a searchable archive of abstracts of news broadcasts from 1968 to present. The Archive's collection includes evening news from ABC, CBS, and NBC (since 1968), an hour per day of CNN (since 1995), and Fox News (since 2004).

Explore abstracts of news clips by date or subject (including Space Exploration, War, Protests, and Personal Computing & Technology), or enter a keyword search. Through an agreement with Stanford University, selected videos are available to be viewed online.
