Campaign Finance: McConnell v. FEC Case Materials and Context

Introduction

This research project, formerly located at campaignfinance.law.stanford.edu, collects documents related to the litigation over the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, also known as the McCain-Feingold Act. This litigation culminated in the Supreme Court's decision in McConnell v. Federal Election Commission, 540 U.S. 93 (2003). It contains case materials from the multiple consolidated cases before the Supreme Court and the District Court for the District of Columbia; relevant legislation; related cases that preceded this litigation; news coverage and public statements; and related publications by Stanford Law School faculty members. You can navigate these materials using the links to the left.

The content has not been updated since this project's original publication in 2012, except to update some links and clarify some document descriptions, and it will not be updated moving forward. Instead, this page serves as an archive of the content previously available at campaignfinance.law.stanford.edu.
